Lectionaries

The Lectionary Page. The biblical texts read in Sunday worship use the Revised Common Lectionary. This site includes the Psalm in its Prayer Book translation. In the Episcopal Church, the Lessons and Gospel readings are from the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) of the Bible.

Lesser Feasts and Fasts, and provisional commemorations include readings for the commemorations observed (both officially and provisionally) by the Episcopal Church.

The Revised Common Lectionary. Texts of the Sunday Readings appointed in the RCL by Vanderbilt Divinity Library using the NRSV translations.

Commentaries

Commentaries | Anglican Diocese of Montreal: Commentaries on the readings from the Revised Common Lectionary by Chris Haslam and shared by the Anglican Diocese of Montreal.

Lectionary Essays: a weekly essay (posted on Monday) usually related to the Gospel appointed for the upcoming Sunday. Posted on the Journey with Jesus webzine the essays invite you to examine your own life in the light of the Gospel. Visit the Lectionary Essay Index page to find essays from 2001 to the present.

Working Preacher. Not just for preachers. Useful and inspiring commentaries on the readings used in Sunday worship. You may have to navigate (there’s a calendar on the page for your use) to the Sunday you wish to study.

Archeology and Geography

Biblical Archeology Society: a website maintained by the Society and a source of wide-ranging information about contemporary archeological studies informing our questions and understandings of the scriptures. For access to the full library, a subscription is necessary.

Art in the Christian Tradition. This links to the Search Page for art collected by the Vanderbilt Divinity Library for use with the RCL. To see Art related to a particular Sunday of Year, use THIS LINK, and then select the ART link associated with those reaings.

Ad Imaginem Dei: Thoughts on the history of European art, from a Catholic perspective. Author Margaret M. Duffy uses this site “to offer some thoughts, from a Catholic perspective, on the art of Western Christianity over the last 19 centuries.” Included is a Useful links page to even more online art.

So then, with endurance, let’s also run the race that is laid out in front of us, since we have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us. Let’s throw off any extra baggage, get rid of the sin that trips us up, and fix our eyes on Jesus, faith’s pioneer and perfecter.
